Hawcoat Park Rugby Union – Pre season training is underway, albeit under strange conditions.
On a warm and muggy evening, Sport Furness popped up to Thorncliffe fields to catch up with the start of Hawcoat Park rugby Union pre season training session.
whilst the lads sweated it out on the field, we caught up with coach Jason Meadows for his thoughts on how things may pan out
Hawcoat Park Rugby Union are back in the flow of training although under very different rules, legislation and circumstances. Covid 19 has put a very different view on things now and going forward with various proposals in place to try to get the game back on its feet but with no official date in place. Everything from touch/tag rugby to nothing starting till Feb 21 so with rumour mills there still no clear view in place.
Training started some 6-8 weeks ago with the squad just doing running but this has also evolved to now using the ball. One main aspect is the sanitising and cleaning issue, so with one person coaching (Colin Niven) and one person gloved and masked up cleaning balls and spotting issues (Jason Meadows) the squad are training with a very safe environment which is key.
The club have managed to hold a BBQ and a few ‘lemonades’ after training with the football section, which proved successful – all socially distanced of course.
we are always looking for new players to bolster the ranks. training takes place on Tuesday/ Thursday evenings from 6:30 at Hawcoat Park Sports and Social Club under teh guidance of fully qualified coaches, so please feel free to pop along and see what we do, or call Jason Meadows on 07450265574.
If you have never played before or have played looking to get back involved in rugby, you will be made very welcome.
