Dalton club unites for marathon challenge
Local amateur sport may be on another enforced break due to the Covid 19 pandemic but it hasn’t stopped Dalton United getting together to raise much needed funds for the Dalton Foodbank. During January they are completing a ‘Lands End to John O’Groats’ virtual challenge, where they will be running, walking and cycling a total of 874 miles.
Speaking to SportFurness, first team manager Stuart Rutherford said. “There are a lot of people going through a tough time at the moment locally, and as a club we wanted to try and do something to help. The season has obviously been postponed so we had been setting the lads some fitness challenges and thought why not see if we could tie it in with raising some funds for the Food Bank? We thought this would be a tough challenge but would keep everyone motivated knowing how much it would benefit the Dalton community”
Club Chairman Graham Bickerstaff added “‘Myself and the committee are delighted that Stuart has planned this initiative. Not only will it keep players active but also raise funds for a vital local charity”.
The initial aim is to raise £500, however any support people can give in these testing times will be massively appreciated by Stuart and the team.
