Henry Hoovers up at Haverthwaite
This Wednesday (12th May) saw the first of Barrow Central Wheeler’s 25 mile Time Trials of the year on the Haverthwaite course.
The weather was kind to the riders with calm conditions, although the tough course still posed a stern test for the 19 competitors.
With this season’s star performer Kevin Chadwick donning the flourescent marshall’s jacket it was the perfect opportunity for someone else to step up and take the top prize and in his first outing of the year it was the Wheeler’s Henry Moss (pictured right) who did exactly that.
At almost one and a half minutes faster than his nearest rival Henry would have been delighted with his time of 54.45 mins. The only rider in the field not from the hosting club, Mitchell Smolen of Lakes RC crossed the line second with a time of 56.11 mins.
Rounding out the top 3 and just two seconds behind Mitchell was Andrew Whalley in 56.13 mins, an impressive time when taking into account he was on his road bike, the only one of the Top 6 not opting for their time trial steed.
Just missing out on a top 10 spot was first lady home Tamsin Vicary (pictured left) who recorded a time of 1.02.03 hrs. Victoria McMurtha (pictured right) took second spot in the ladies race, her time of 1.05.23 hrs taking over two minutes off her personal best, made more impressive on a night when PB’s were in short supply as the only other rider to set a new fastest time was Paul Quinn.
