Huck flies and sinks em!
Twenty six riders turned up on a warm but windy evening last week to take on the Roa Island 16 mile time trial for only the second time after its introduction to the schedule last year.
With a tail wind helping along the causeway and along the coast road the course record was always going to be in danger and so it proved as the Wheeler’s David Huck (pictured right) sped round the course, breaking the 38 minute barrier by just two seconds. Jonny Hill (BCW) was last to leave the starting gate and looked to be on course to challenge Huck, however he had to settle for second place as he came home half a minute behind.
As usual the Stephenson brothers were at the business end of the race, and it was them that fought out the battle for third, Sam (pictured left) taking the honours by just twelve seconds with a time of 38.43 mins. Tom can take some comfort in breaking the 39 minute mark, whilst a solid ride from Mitchell Smolen (39.26) saw him finish fifth and the last rider under 40 minutes. All 3 riders representing Lakes Road Club.
Christina Wiejak (pictured right) will be gutted to have missed breaking that mark herself, finishing 26 seconds outside in 40.26mins. She will be delighted to have finished seventh overall though and to take the ladies course record as well, continuing her great form since the start of the year.
Along with David, Jonny, Mitchell and Christina, one other person managed a PB on the course. Step forward Graham Carrick (pictured left) the Time Trial secretary, not only recording an excellent time of 41.15 minutes but securing himself a top 10 finish in the process an excellent effort when you think of how much work he does to put these events on.
