Sea stunner scuttles Scunthorpe.
Barrow AFC 1-0 Scunthorpe United Attendance: 1,320
Dimitri Sea opened his account for Barrow in style, as his overhead kick gave the Bluebirds the victory in the first round of the Carabao Cup.
Bluebirds boss Mark Cooper made four changes from the side that lost to Stevenage at the weekend, with Sea, Festus Arthur, Jamie Devitt, Tom White getting starts.
Devitt almost justified his inclusion after just 10 minutes, when some neat footwork teed up a chance for a dipping shot that was only kept out by a decent stop from Rory Watson.
Not long after, Patrick Brough almost opened the scoring when he ghosted in at the far post, but he couldn’t get a telling touch on Remeao Hutton’s cross.
Bluebirds skipper, Mark Ellis, went close with a thunderous strike as half-chances continued to pop up for both sides in a somewhat disjointed first half.
Scunthorpe started to threaten the Barrow goal and Harry Bunn’s effort skimmed the paint on the top of the crossbar, before Paul Farman was called into action to produce two fine saves to deny Ryan Loft and Myles Hippolyte, with the deadlock remaining intact into the break.
Barrow started the second half on the front foot, with Sea flashing a driven shot wide of the post.
The young striker wasn’t to be denied his first professional goal, however, and he put Barrow ahead with a flash of brilliance on 50 minutes.
A long throw from Hutton was flicked on by Ellis to the back post, where the Frenchman followed the arc of the ball superbly before executing a flawless overhead kick that flew past Watson.
Barrow’s lead was almost doubled by the debuting substitute Offrande Zanzala, who skipped past two Iron defenders near the byline on the left, before flashing a shot at goal Watson could only tip over the bar.
The visitors piled forward in search of the equaliser, but both Tom Pugh and Devarn Green had attempts fly off target, as Barrow progressed through to round two.
