Evatt linked with Bolton – but they face a £250k price tag!

The confetti is barely settled onto the turf at Holker Street following last weeks confirmation of promotion, but already AFC are experiencing the turbulence and cut-throat nature of League 2 football.

With manager Keith Hill set to leave his post at Bolton Wanderers following their demotion to League 2, the Trotters are being strongly linked with a move for Barrow’s Ian Evatt.

Earlier, The Bolton News reported no official approach had been made for Evatt, but it is understood he remains highly fancied, and the Barrow manager sits firmly favourite in the betting markets at the time of writing.

That said, Bolton are a team in dire financial straits, facing a transfer embargo for next season restricting the signing or loaning of any players commanding a fee, while they have debts and a recent administration over their head.

Numerous sources have cited a buy out clause of £120,000 for the National League winning manager, but Sport Furness understands that figure is less than half the true amount, with £250,000 being the figure a club would need to part with to gain his services. A source close to the club also believes that any future transfer would be reliant on this fee being paid in full and up front, which may yet prove too much of a stumbling block for the cash-strapped club.

Nobody at AFC was available for comment at the time of publishing, but we understand the club are still yet to receive any official communication regarding their man.
