Hockey still thriving in Furness

Ulverston hockey club train and play at Ulverston leisure centre based on Priory Road. The club runs run regular training sessions for all ages and abilities on Thursday evenings, starting with the diddies group (children ages 6-12) who train between 6-7pm. This is followed by two separate but concurrent sessions between 7-8:30pm, juniors (age 12+) and senior players.

They currently only have one ladies team playing competitively on Saturdays but have several male players who train in all age groups. The club also runs Sunday development games for mixed age groups.  The season runs from September – April and they are optimistic that they will be able to return to training and playing fixtures for the beginning of the 2020-21 season. In normal circumstances we run a “pitch up and play” session through the summer but due to COVID-19 are not currently doing so.

The club also runs a number of “quick sticks” satellite sessions with several schools around the area. They also coordinate an annual “quick sticks” tournament, so if you have a child who has participated and enjoyed one of these sessions and would like to develop their passion for the sport further, I would encourage them to come down and join one of our coached sessions. The first session is free and we are always happy to support with kit and equipment.
