Holker Street Roof Plans Approved

Holker Street Roof Plans Approved

In a week of high anticipation for updates on Barrow’s promotion hopes, further good news has arrived for the club in the shape of approved planning permission for a new roof on the Holker Street End.

The Holker Street End, traditionally the heart and soul of the Bluebirds’ home support has been open to the elements ever since the removal it’s previous roof in 1998. Now, the club are keen to put that right, and have this week received approval on planning permission for a new roof construction, which will see a new roof covering both the home and away sections of the end completed this summer.

The news means the club are now clear to begin work on the project, and initial preparations are well underway. Scaffolding will shortly be erected, before foundation work and structural undertakings begin on 22nd June. It is anticipated that all work on the project will be completed by the 22nd August.

Speaking to Sport Furness, Ryan Sutherland was full of optimism:

“We are delighted that the planning permission neccesary to start work on the Holker Street End roof has been granted, allowing the team to get going on the project. Having a roof back on the Holker Street End has long been a dream for many supporters and we are looking forward to making that dream a reality. The roof is also part of the work needed ahead of what will hopefully be a return to the Football League for the club next season.

“Bridgewater Development have been on site this week making their initial preparations and we expect the neccesary scaffolding work to be completed by early next week. That will pave the way for the project to really get going and it is expected to be completed by the 22nd August.”
