Sport Furness wants your help

Sport Furness wants your help

Around a year ago a group of passionate people were discussing the lack of local sport coverage in the media. Many of us had contributed to local press in the way of reports and content and had become disheartened with it.  It was felt that something needed to be done about this and so www.sportfurness.co.uk was born.

Sadly Covid 19 then took hold and as we all know sport, was on the whole, cancelled. This however did enable us to agree on what we want to achieve, make sure that we were happy with the workings of the website and get used to producing articles.

What are our hopes for SportFurness?

  1. To become the go to place for ALL local sport.
  2. To not discriminate, all sports to have as much coverage as they deserve.
  3. To build relationships and trust with local organisations, leagues, clubs and individuals.
  4. To be a visible presence at events where possible.
  5. To help lead campaigns where sport can be a help, for example mental health and obesity.
  6. To raise money through advertising on the site, 100% of which can be ploughed back into local sport.

We hope you are as excited as us about this, if so this is where you come in.

We are all volunteers, this is a not for profit organisation, we will need help to take the next steps.

Primarily we need people willing to do the following right now.

  1. Reporters, all we ask is you have a passion for sport. Maybe you are a college student wanting to gain experience or a retiree from sport who still wants to be actively involved. A parent or partner who gets dragged along every week and feel it will keep them occupied whilst stood on the side lines or just someone who fancies giving it a go.
  2. People to supply us with content, in the shape of bullet points we can shape into articles or photographs so the pictures match the articles rather than old, outdated photos.
  3. Supply us with further contacts, especially of secretaries, managers, captains. The go to people that every sport has, the organisers. We want a comprehensive database so no sport feels unloved.
  4. Ideas people. If you have any thoughts on what people want to see and read about. Maybe you hear of an event that you think we may not know about, let us know.
  5. Potential advertisers, if you think you can help us progress, please get in touch.

Check out our website, see what we are about and what we are doing. But most importantly, please get in touch so we can start giving your sport the coverage it deserves. We can be reached by filling in the form on our Contact page or by email to [email protected] .
