Work begins on new roof for the Holker Street End

Work has begun today on construction of a new roof structure for Barrow AFC’s Holker Street End.

Following the news earlier this week that planning permission had been granted, diggers were today seen working on the Progression Solicitors Stadium. The initial work involves the removal of cladding at the rear of the terrace, along with digging of holes for the upcoming ‘piling’ work scheduled to begin on the 22nd June.

The work is being completed by local company Bridgewater Developments, who are already building the club’s new fan zone and bar at the opposite Steelworks end of the ground.

Barrow AFC Director and Bluebirds Trust fans rep Levi Gill described the work as an “important milestone” as the owners look to improve the match day experience for fans. Acknowledging the roof has long been desired by fans, Gill said “this is [also] a sign of intent that the club stand ready to meet the obligations and requirements of EFL membership and that the owners are committed to playing their part in delivering the prosperous future for Barrow AFC that all of us associated with the club deserve.”

It is anticipated the new roof, which at 65m long will span the majority of the terrace, will be completed by the 22nd August.
